South Delhi Municipal Corporation organised a workshop on Solid Waste Management system in partnership with IPE Global and MSN INFRA at Dr. SPM Civic centre. The workshop was attended by Commissioner Manish Gupta, Addl. Commissioner(NDMC) Deepak Hasteer, Engineer in chief Ravi Dass, Chief Engineer Umesh Sachdeva and other senior officials along with representatives from private concessionaires and delegates from industry.
In the workshop Manish Gupta commissioner said that (SDMC) is responsible for maintaining sanitation and environment management services in Delhi for the area in its jurisdiction. The purpose of the Workshop is to discuss current issues and explore solutions for better managing the sanitation system In Delhi. He said that our contract with private concessionaires is ending in January. This time we need that kind of a contract which flexible and exploratory which helps to evolve the whole waste management system.
Gupta further added that SDMC is fully seized of limitations it has with regard to availability of land for setting up processing plants and landfills in Delhi and is exploring options that are best suited to attain its objective of making Delhi clean and litter free.
Engineer in chief Mr. Ravi Dass said that SDMC is now considering redefining the scope of work by including Municipal Solid Waste, Street Sweeping, Drain Silt, Horticulture Waste and Construction Demolition Waste to be executed by suitable private players of national and international repute for design, built, and operation. He also said that Technology and latest tools would be used to monitor 24X7 working of the Concessionaires to ensure better compliance.
Representatives from private concessionaires give their valuable suggestions, feedback and ideas and also expressed their concerns and problems in the workshop.
